What is Demonax?
Demonax is a clone of and homage to an old version of that game named after a bone we all know and love, but with some modifications to make the gameplay a bit more balanced, fun and slightly less "grindy".
In short, Demonax offers:
- True 7.7 game mechanics
- Free premium account
- 4x experience rate
- Faster skill increase (including magic level)
- Increased damage for specific runes
- Automatic, weekly supply of runes
- Faster respawns
- Increased amount of gold loot
- Reworked quests and rewards
- New items, creatures, areas and NPCs
What's changed?
True 7.7 game mechanics
No more shooting runes at other players via the battle window or using with hotkeys. The oldschool game mechanics are brought back to life and your aiming skills matter once again.
Free premium account
Demonax is run as a hobby project, and is free for all to play, as long as you stick to the rules. No charges for premium accounts; every new account is automatically assigned premium.
4x experience rate
All creatures in Demonax give four times the amount of experience points, but the amount of experience points needed for each level is the same as in the original game.
Faster skill increase
Demonax, like the original game, uses two numerical constants to determine how fast a character advances in each skill. The two constants are the base constant, `A`, which sets the base amount of skill points required to advance to the next level, and the vocation constant, `B`, which sets the rate of increase as the character advances. Skill points are defined as mana for magic level, hits for melee, distance fighting and shielding, and attempts for fishing. There is also a skill offset, `C`, which corresponds to the starting skill. The skill offset is 0 for magic level and 10 for all other skills. If we denote skill level as `S`, the following formula can be used to calculate the total number of skill points (`SP`) required for a specific skill level `S`, using the different constants:
$$ SP_{tot} = A \frac{B^{S-C} - 1}{B - 1} $$In Demonax, the base constant `A` is decreased by 25% and the vocation constants are decreased by 1%. This results in quicker skill increases, especially at higher skill levels, but not so much that it will result in characters immediately reaching tremendously high levels.
Automatic, weekly supply of runes
A backpack with runes will appear in the arrow slot of your character's inventory during each server save every Friday morning. Make sure to keep this space unoccupied!
Faster respawns
The respawn rate is on average 33% faster than in the original game. Note that this is an average; some spawns are more affected, some less.
Increased amount of gold loot
Pushing lootbags around was, to be honest, not that fun. All creatures now give substantially more gold, and in many cases platinum coins instead of gold coins. This makes hunting more profitable and hopefully more fun.
Reworked quests and rewards
To balance the game a bit and enhance replay value, several quests and associated rewards have been modified. Some quests are also more dangerous now than they were previously, so be careful! Speaking of quests, Demonax has implemented a questlog that tracks the completion of almost every quest in the game. Completing specific quests now comes with added benefits, such as being able to purchase certain items, obtaining rewards, or unlocking new quests. Remember: It is always wise to talk to the inhabitants of Demonax...
New items, creatures, areas and NPCs
Quite a few items in the original game were, as of version 7.7, unobtainable or simply not implemented yet. These items are now brought into the game, in some shape or form, although they might be difficult to get your hands on. Other items have been modified with different or additional attributes. Furthermore, a new type of weapon, staffs, has been introduced for druids and sorcerers. The creatures roaming Demonax do not only give more experience than in the original game: Some of them appear where they haven't before, and there are whispers of previously unseen creatures emerging. Some creatures may be particularly suitable for knights and paladins wishing to boost their skills.
Several items have been modified with vocation and level requirements, as well as with skill boosts and protection against different kinds of damage. The goal is to make the game more balanced and to increase the replay value, since different vocations will have a more unique set of items and equipment available. Furthermore, the choice between sword, axe and club weapons for knights has more consequences, and should be more balanced with specific equipment to match either choice. Taken together, these changes encourage the use of different sets of weapons and equipment depending on which creatures you hunt or which quest you want to complete.
Free houses
All houses in Demonax are free of charge! You can request a house via the account dashboard. Houses are assigned on a first come, first server basis, and the assignment will take place automatically during the following server save.
